LAYING FOUNDATIONS FOR HISTORICAL INQUIRY IN AMERICAN HISTORY
In the fall 2003, Michigan's Plymouth-Canton Community Schools (P-CCS) was awarded $807, 000 by
the United States Department of Education to design and implement a program providing middle and high school
history teachers the opportunity to enhance their content and pedagogical knowledge.
Laying Foundations brings together key partners from the local educational, cultural and historical community to
provide quality educational opportunities for district teachers and students.
Working in
collaboration with the
University of
Michigan-Dearborn, Schoolcraft
College, The Henry Ford and the
Plymouth Historical
Museum,
P-CCS will offer high level, intensive content instruction focused around critical questions of major historical themes, regular interactions from accomplished historians, a solid foundation in research based best instructional practices and the essential primary and secondary resources to implement them effectively.
